Speaking As Friends

9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the Lord spoke with Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to their tent. 11 The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.
Exodus 33: 9-11
Everyone needs friends. some friends are there for happy occasions, some are there for you in times of sorrow. friends are very important people. A genuine friend will be there in good times and bad. They will tell you the truth even if it hurts. They will hold you accountable for your walk and your talk.
Moses who led all of God’s people out of Egyptian bondage, daily faced the murmuring and complaining of those whom God delivered. Moses needed a friend. Even his brother had aligned himself with the people opposite to Moses. So Moses set up a tent outside the camp as a place for prayer. (EX.33-7-11)
Moses met with the Lord. and that was the only true friend Moses needed. and that is what we need in our lives today.
The last part of Hebrew 13-5 says “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
When God talked to moses face to face it enhanced his credibility to those who witnessed the event. God had  proved Himself a true friend by sticking with Moses even in times when Moses contended with Him. When God determined to destroy the people and raise up a nation from  the descendants of Moses. Moses interceded in prayer and even offered his life for the life of the people. Moses proved to be faithful at every step of the way except for the time he struck the rock instead of speaking to it as God instructed. Even in that difficult time God remained faithful to Moses.
Friendship with God was a true privilege for Moses but out of reach for the Hebrews. But is not out of reach today. Jesus called his disciples and by extension all of his followers friends.
John 15-15 “No longer do i call you servants for a servant does not know what his master is doing but i have called you friends for all things that i heard from my father i have made known to you”
And that is exactly what Christ does to all of His saints, He calls upon them to rise up and accept His Mercy and His dwelling.
